Hi All! My name is Monica and I’d love to share my story with you about being an Indian woman who married an African American man. When I decided to do this, I thought “surely I’m one of the rare cases of an Indian marrying someone who is Black”! I was wrong. I discovered a community of many South Asian mixed couples who have quickly become my friends!
I am a dog lover – my dog Axel is my obsession and I probably take 20 pictures of him every day! I love to cook (no patience for baking but I try the easy recipes), travel, decorate, shop (till I drop), and re-do old furniture items into new pieces! I will definitely share all of my hobbies with you here and there.
How did this start? One day on a mixed/interracial dating Facebook page, I had commented on a post regarding an Indian woman who married outside of the Indian culture and the social struggles she went through in her community. I know the feeling: the comments, the stares, the support versus the abandonment. The next day my inbox was flooded with couples in the same situation as me, asking for advice! I knew at that moment, I wanted to help these beautiful couples navigate through the good and the bad.
I hope to help you with your interracial relationship. I am by no means a couples therapist or counselor but by sharing my experiences on dealing with cultural differences, disapproving family members, managing a multi-religious household, wedding planning, and the many other moments we have gone through, I know I can provide the support you need when you might be feeling like you are alone!
